FIM OPENS MANUFACTURER APPLICATIONS FOR NEW E-XPLORER SERIES

Following its launch last month, the FIM has today opened the application process for manufacturers to express their interest in the new electric off-road motorcycle series entitled E-Xplorer.

The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, the global governing body of motorcycle racing, will now review interest from relevant parties who have until August 20, 2021, to register before successful bids will be announced later in the year.

Bikes in the series must be two-wheel and be propelled by 100% electric, without exceeding the 130kg maximum weight. Manufacturers must be able to supply motorcycles and spare parts for up to three teams by the end for the year, with each team requiring six bikes.

Supported by the likes of Alejandro Agag and Eric Peronnard, the new series is set to commence in 2022 and feature five events taking place in both urban and natural environments. 10 teams, each with two riders – one male and one female – will compete in a mixture of time trials and head-to-head events – all designed to encourage fans to explore the outdoors whilst raising awareness of the environment.

Speaking at the time of the launch, FIM President Jorge Viegas, said: “The FIM is proud to be part of this exciting new project and will provide all the necessary support to ensure its success during its inaugural season and long into the future during which time electric power will become a dominant player in our sport.”
