On the 16/17 September, the pioneering electric FIM E-Xplorer motorcycling World Cup will crown the first ever FIM E-Xplorer World Cup Winner, as the series heads to Sardinia for the final two rounds of its inaugural season.
The event will take place alongside rounds seven and eight of the thrilling all-electric international off-road Championship, Extreme E, creating a true festival of electric, all-inclusive, and sustainability-driven motorsport.
In tandem with the Extreme E format, Sardinia will also debut the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup’s first double header event, ensuring plenty of opportunity for the nine teams and 18 riders to chase the championship dream.
The 0.6km track will provide a new challenge for the 2023 grid. Based in the Italian Army Training area at Capo Teulada in Sulcis-Iglesiente in the South of the island, the sandy surface will add a new dimension after the dry dirt of Catalunya, the gravel mountain tracks of Crans Montana and most recently the mud and wooded area of Vollore-Montagne. Although, the double-header format will allow teams an extra chance to fight for the win on a then-familiar layout.
Leading the series into the final weekend is Japan’s Midori Moriwaki’s MIE team with 66 points. While Maddwill and the winners of the previous round in Vollore-Montagne, Gravity, (Kiara Fontanesi and Camille Chapeliere) are both tied in the runners up spot with 46 points. Kiara Fontanesi and Alex Andreis (Backyard Racing Lizcat Factory Team) will both represent the ‘home’ riders for the local crowds.
There are four changes to the line-up in these final two rounds, with Sandra Keller joined by Jonathan Rossé for Maddwill, Mette Fidje joining SEVEN alongside Spenser Wilton, Gabriela Seisdedos racing with Jack Field for FLAIR, and Tjasa Fifer joining FANATICS with Dylan Woodcock.
"These final two rounds in Sardinia are an important milestone for us," said Co-Founder and CEO E-Xplorer, Valentin Guyonnet. "From delivering a successful and wide-reaching inaugural season, with teams, riders and manufacturers involved from all around the world, to our first collaboration with a major Championship, Extreme E – we are immensely proud of the progress the FIM E-Xplorer World Cup has made so far, and the foundations we have set for the future.
"This weekend will mark the first time in history that an electric two-wheel and electric four-wheel championship will race at the same event and we are excited for the unique competition the terrain will demand. With the incredible support of the local Federation and Motor Club Sardegna, Sardinia promises to deliver a thrilling finale to a close-fought season."
